Workforce Genetics presents an opportunity for a VP of Legal & Compliance, reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Board of Directors. The Vice President of Legal and Compliance (VP of Legal & Compliance) is responsible for managing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters for a clinical laboratory.
This role ensures adherence to federal and state healthcare regulations, mitigates legal risks, and implements policies to maintain operational integrity. The VP will provide strategic legal counsel to executive leadership, manage compliance programs, and oversee corporate governance to protect the organization’s interests.
Additionally, the VP of Legal & Compliance will be responsible for:
• Providing legal guidance to the executive team on corporate matters, contracts, and risk management.
• Oversee the development, negotiation, and review of contracts, including vendor agreements, payer contracts, and partnerships.
• Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements advise the board on legal matters, and serve as the compliance officer of the company, reporting to the Board of Directors Audit Committee.
• Manage legal disputes, litigation, and external legal counsel relationships.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including CLIA, HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and FDA guidelines.
• Develop, implement, and monitor policies to prevent compliance violations and mitigate risks.
• Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify potential legal and regulatory exposures.
• Oversee incident investigations, compliance reporting, and corrective action plans.
• Lead data privacy initiatives and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other applicable privacy laws.
• Develop and enforce ethical guidelines and compliance training programs for employees.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and manage responses to audits or inquiries.
• Lead and develop the legal and compliance team to ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Educate and train employees on regulatory requirements, compliance best practices, and ethical conduct.
What will be required:
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; active bar membership required.
• 10+ years of experience in legal and compliance roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, including CLIA, HIPAA, Stark Law, and Anti-Kickback Statute.
• Experience in the clinical laboratory, healthcare, or life sciences industry.
• Proven ability to manage regulatory audits, investigations, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with executive leadership, regulatory bodies, and external legal counsel.
